Ascent available between winter and spring when the slopes are covered with snow.
Cerro Arenas stands out for its impressive south face. The first ascent was made in 1954 via its west slope (the normal route) by Carlos La Rivera, Pablo Escudero, Roberto Screpe, and Rafael Cucurella. The normal route features a mixture of snowy slopes and loose rock. The best time of year to climb this mountain is when there is snow on its slopes, as this reduces the amount of scree, which makes the climb difficult and slow. One of the main attractions of the route is that you can see ammonite fossils, which can measure up to 25 centimeters (it is strictly forbidden to take or remove any of these). From the summit, you can see the imposing San José Volcano, Marmolejo, Marisemberg, Placas, Mesón Alto, and many other mountains.
